Welcome to WhiskyGuru. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting any personal information you may provide while using our website or the WhiskyGuru app. Where something applies to only one of the two, it says so.

2. Information We Collect

We do not actively collect personal information unless you voluntarily provide it. However, we may collect the following types of data when you use the website or the app:

• Log Data: IP addresses, browser type, and access times.
• Usage Data: Searches performed and pages visited.
• Account activity: when you last signed in and when you last opened the app. These are two dates on your account, each overwritten by the newer one. We keep no history of your sessions, so this can tell us whether an account is still in use and nothing more. Both are deleted with your account.

3. How We Use Your Information

The information we collect is used for the following purposes:

• To display and improve website functionality.
• To monitor website usage and performance.
• To troubleshoot issues and ensure security.
• To see how many accounts are still in use, so we know whether what we build is worth building.

4. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies to enhance user experience. We do not track data for marketing purposes.

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information. However, we may share data in the following cases:

9. Affiliate Partnerships and Product Feeds

WhiskyGuru takes part in affiliate programmes, some arranged directly with a retailer and some through partners that handle affiliate tracking on their behalf. If you follow a link to a shop and buy something, we may earn a commission. This never affects the price you pay.

Commission plays no part in what you see. Shops are listed cheapest first, and a shop we earn nothing from is shown on exactly the same terms as one we do. Links out to retailers are marked with rel="sponsored".

Prices, stock and product images come from retailer product feeds and from publicly available pages on retailer sites. That is product data only. It holds no personal information about you, and we send no information about our visitors to retailers or their affiliate partners.

When you click through to a shop, the partner handling that retailer's programme may set a cookie in your browser so the sale can be credited to us. That cookie is set by them, under their own privacy policy, and not by us. There is more about this in our cookie policy.

Retailers who would rather not be listed, or who would like to become a partner, can reach us through our partners page.

10. User-Submitted Images

Users of the WhiskyGuru app may voluntarily submit photos (such as bottle or case images) to help the community. By submitting an image you confirm that:

• The photo was taken by you, or you have the right to share it.
• You grant WhiskyGuru a perpetual, royalty-free licence to use, display, and distribute the image within the platform.
• You will not retain ownership or exclusive rights to the image after submission.
• Submitted images may be reviewed before being published and can be removed at our discretion.

Please do not submit images that are copyrighted by third parties (such as professional product photography from retailers or brands) without explicit permission.

11. Location Data

When you use the WhiskyGuru app, you may optionally share your location to tag check-ins with a venue (such as a bar, distillery, or shop near you). Location access is never requested automatically. It is only used when you explicitly tap "Find nearby venues" while logging a check-in.

• What we collect: If you choose to tag a venue, we may store the venue name, venue type, and approximate coordinates (latitude/longitude) associated with that check-in.
• How it's used: Venue data is used to display your check-in history and, where applicable, group check-ins by location. It is visible to your friends on WhiskyGuru but is not included in public activity feeds.
• Third-party service: Nearby venue suggestions are fetched from OpenStreetMap via its Overpass API. No personally identifiable information is sent to this service, only the approximate coordinates you provide.
• Retention: Location data stored with a check-in is retained as long as your account exists. You can remove it at any time by editing or deleting the check-in.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
