WhiskyGuru is built by one person who drinks whisky, and it started because nothing out there did what I wanted. I kept notes on bottles in one place, a wishlist in another, and every time I found a whisky worth buying I still had to open five shops to work out what it should cost.

So it is not a catalogue somebody built from a spreadsheet. Every feature is here because I ran into the problem myself, poured the dram, and wanted the app to do something it could not do yet.

What you can do

• Check in every dram with a rating out of ten, the flavours you picked up, a photo and where you were.
• Keep track of the bottles you own, the ones you have finished and the ones still on the wishlist.
• Scan the barcode on the back of a bottle and land straight on the right bottling, no typing out a label.
• See what a bottle actually costs, with shops listed cheapest first and converted so you can compare them.
• Not sure what to buy? The whisky finder asks a couple of questions and comes back with bottles you can buy right now, matched to taste and budget.
• Browse distilleries, independent bottlers, brands and bottling series, with ratings and notes from people who drank them.
• Follow other drinkers, see what they are opening and give a slàinte to a check-in you like.
• Use it in the browser or in the free iOS and Android app; it is the same account either way.

Independent, and staying that way

Shops are always listed cheapest first. We earn a commission when you buy through a link, but that plays no part in the order you see and placement is not for sale. If a shop we earn nothing from is cheaper, it still goes on top. See the partners page for how the offers get here.

Where the data comes from

The catalogue is built and corrected by the people who use it. Prices, stock and product images come from retailer product feeds, some arranged with a shop directly and some through partners that handle affiliate tracking on their behalf, and from publicly available pages on retailer sites. A small amount of early product data came from Open Food Facts, available under the Open Database License. Spotted something wrong? Tell us and it gets fixed.
